Black-Owned Media Deserves More Than Just a Seat at the Table — We Built the Table.

LOS ANGELES, CA — June 20, 2025 — Black TheRapii, a platform amplifying the voice, value, and visibility of Black wellness and culture, responds to the recent confidential settlement between McDonald’s Corporation and media mogul Byron Allen in a $10 billion racial discrimination lawsuit over alleged ad spending disparities with Black-owned media outlets.

Allen’s historic legal action — which centered on McDonald’s alleged maintenance of a separate, unequal ad tier for media targeting Black audiences — has culminated in a landmark moment for equity in advertising. As the settlement ends years of legal dispute, it also reignites an essential conversation: what does true media equity look like in America?

“This isn’t just about one case or one company. It’s about a legacy of exclusion. And it’s time to correct it — not with silence, but with systemic investment,” -Dr.Harding co-founder. “We stand with Byron Allen and every Black-owned media outlet that’s been underfunded, overlooked, or underestimated. We’re not niche — we’re necessary.”

Why It Matters:
    •    McDonald’s faced credible allegations of violating civil rights laws by underfunding Black-owned media, despite its reliance on Black consumers as a cultural and economic force.
    •    The case revealed broader industry patterns that keep Black-owned platforms at the margins of major ad buys.
    •    Black TheRapii joins calls for transparency, accountability, and a reallocation of media dollars that reflects the true impact and influence of Black audiences.

What’s Next:

Black TheRapii is launching the #FundBlackMediaEqually campaign — an open call to brands, agencies, and decision-makers to audit their ad spend, share their media allocations publicly, and commit to spending at least 15% with Black-owned platforms.

Because DEI isn’t just about HR policies. It’s about who gets heard. And who gets paid.
